I have never gotten into Twitter. It is one of the only social media platforms that I do not have, so using Twitter is a little weird for me. I have been interacting with just the EME2040 Twitter and the FSU related twitter accounts. They are beneficial in the way that I am staying up to date on things happening around campus, and awards people are winning on campus for their research, but they don't see a lot of benefits that relate to my future career interests. I think Twitter can be beneficial in my future career, however, because I think it will also me to say up to date on my students, current events, and it will allow me to relate to my students on a more personal level. I think I could also use it as a class reminder page, where I can post updates on when things are due and what will be happening in class, since by the time I will be teaching in a school I am sure most kids will be consumed by technology and their phones.
The digital divide is the gap between students that have more access to the internet and technology compared to those who do not have easy access. Socio-Economic barriers are making this divide even larger as some students do not have easy access to computers, internet, cellphones simply because their families cannot afford it. Lack of internet and computer access can cause some students not be able to do assigned homework and projects. Growing up, my teachers always asked us at the beginning of the semester if we had access to a computer and internet, and if we didn't they would not assign homework that required a computer, and if they did, they always gave the option to use the class computers. I think I would adopt these same strategies so that everyone has the same opportunities.
I think it depends on what grade level I end up teaching. Since I am not set on a specific age or grade, I have different academic software I would use in different scenarios. For younger grades, I would love to use ClassDojo since it is interactive and it gives reports to the teachers and the parents. I also really like CoolMathGames for elementary school-aged kids, as the games are fun, but they also reinforce different math skills. For older kids, I would like to use PowerPoints and google sheets. I would also like to actively use all forms of Microsoft Office tools, and qualtrics surveys as a way to actively engage the students.
